M.  Nothing can be done prevent oily skin.
F.  Not necessarily. Oily skin that is properly cared for can be controlled and brought back to a balanced state. If the skincare products you've tried haven't worked, use these EverWell products (click here) - or see a dermatologist.

M.  Exposing skin to the sun will dry up oily skin.
F.  Undue exposure to the sun's rays can actually compound an oily skin problem. When the skin is deprived of much needed hydration, the sebaceous glands may go into overdrive to compensate for the lost hydration. In addition, sun damaged skin may not exfoliate properly resulting in dead skin cells forming plugs that block the skin's pores. This promotes the growth of the P. acnes bacteria inside the blocked pore causing acne and irritation.

M.  Scrubbing the skin vigorously gets rid of oily skin.
F.  Unfortunately, this mistaken belief can cause oily skin to get worse. Vigorous scrubbing, especially with harsh ingredients, irritates the skin. Irritation stimulates oil production, redness and swelling – the exact opposite of what is needed. To view a list of harmful ingredients found in skin care products, click here.
